Heritage Recipe: Savannah Cream Cake

This cake has a little story to it. My Papa, who refinished furniture for a living went out on a delivery one day. At the lady’s house, he was at for the delivery, he saw some cake on the counter and asked her what it was. She gave him a piece of the cake and he liked it so much, that he asked her to please write down the recipe to give it to his wife. He brought the recipe home and asked my Grandma to please make it for him, and she did. This was one of his all time favorite cakes ever and makes for a wonderful story to share with the recipe itself.

Goodbye Valentine's Day!

Why my husband and I are saying good riddance to Valentine’s Day. We as a couple have decided after our almost 12 years together that Valentine’s Day as whole is just not needed.

Learning to heal, how do we do that?

Healing. That is a word that encompasses a lot of meaning for many different things. You can heal from physical things, emotional turmoil, and from your past. But what am I specifically thinking about today, in this moment? Healing from your past, we all have a past, some of ours are filled with all of the above that we need to learn to heal from. How can we do that? How can we heal from things that have happened to us

Why I stopped dying my hair

I am now 36 years old and about to turn 37, I have a 16 almost 17 year old daughter and I am starting to see myself and things differently in the world around us. I have talked before about self love, but how can one truly do that and make that message loud and clear, without embracing everything about themselves? Then it came to me, if I am to teach this to my daughter and have her fully believe it, I need to embrace all of me… White/ Grey hair & all!

The end of one year and beginning of a new.

Of course, this is the time of year many make those New Year’s resolutions, some will stick to them and feel accomplished, while others start them off with a sense of urgency but never really fully commit themselves 100% to the resolutions.

Self Reflection

“By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.” ~ Confucius So, I have been thinking a lot about things lately, from family to friends & everything else that falls in between. How our relationships shape and…

Don’t take your loved one for granted.

Sometimes, we forget the one who is at home, taking care of the house, the kids and animals, does it not because they have to, but because they want to.  They take care of all the little things that make our life functional and complete and it is easy to forget that from time to…

Unconditional Love

At its very definition unconditional love seems like something out of a fairytale, something that many of us are unsure if we have ever truly encountered in our lifetime. Unconditional love is generally something that we as mothers and fathers give to our children without question, but outside of the parent and child relationship is…
