This cake has a little story to it. My Papa, who refinished furniture for a living went out on a delivery one day. At the lady’s house, he was at for the delivery, he saw some cake on the counter and asked her what it was. She gave him a piece of the cake and he liked it so much, that he asked her to please write down the recipe to give it to his wife. He brought the recipe home and asked my Grandma to please make it for him, and she did. This was one of his all time favorite cakes ever and makes for a wonderful story to share with the recipe itself.

This just so happens to be one of my family’s favorite meals of all time, that and every time I make it, there are no leftovers! My middle child always helps me make the dumplings, from mixing them to cutting them and then putting them into the broth. It is something we have been doing for years together now. As soon as he hears that I am making chicken and dumplings he rushes into the kitchen and grabs everything we need.
